"Add to Contacts" from SMS

If I get an SMS from a number I don't have saved, whether the text is highlighted in a list or open on screen, when I press the Menu key I don't have an "Add To Contacts" button. I have to hit "Show Recipients", copy the number, go to contacts, and paste it into a new contact.

Am I missing something?

Please use plain text.

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

matt, in the SMS message, can you place your cursor over the number you wish to add, then click the Menu key and find Add to Contacts?

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

No, there isn't a cursor on the SMS application, the scroll ball just moves the highlighted letter.

Highest I can scroll is the first letter of the text (it won't select the number at the top)

Only way I can get the number to show is by going to "Show Recipients" and even when the number is highlighted/selected my only options are Call, SMS or MMS.

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

same issue here, really frustrating.  especially as when I copied all of my old contacts to this phone it cut off a lot of the names and only saved one number for each contact.  Any solution to creating new contacts from incoming SMS?

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

Hi,

I also have this problem.  When an SMS is received from a sender that isn't in my contacts list, there seems to be no option to add them automatically.

Opening the message and clicking on "Full Menu" gives the options to Call and MMS the contact but not to add to the contacts list.

Please help!

Thanks

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

Charlie Brown, when you do this, is your cursor placed ON the phone number?

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  It isn't possible to put the cursor on the sender's number as it appears at the top of the screen and is unselectable.  Please could you clarify.

Re: "Add to Contacts" from SMS

Hi JSanders,

Please could you get back to me about this problem.

Also do you work for BlackBerry?  If yes, I have several issues with this version of the software:

1. Inability to add SMS numbers to contacts list (as described in post above)

2. I used to be able to assign Lock/Unlock to the side convenience keys but this option is no longer available.  The default configuration is to use "A" for lock and mute for unlock, but this is a bit illogical and fiddly

3. AppWorld doesn't work at all, ie. there is no response when clicking on the icon.  I've tried uninstalling and now it just hangs when I try to reinstall

Is there a patch release on the way?  I believe I have the most recent release for version 5.0, but please let me know if not.

Blackberry 8520

v5.0.0.681 (Platform 5.2.0.67)

Kernel v3.8.5.85

Many thanks

Nope. Absolutely not. This is a user-to-user community support forum. We are not RIM employees, but volunteers who enjoy assisting other users. RIM personnel rarely comment on queries posted here. You would have noticed this in the EULA and message upon registration.

1. Inability to add SMS numbers to contacts list (as described in post above) It's been covered in many other posts. I think that might be fixed in a more recent OS release.  See below.

v5.0.0.681 (Platform 5.2.0.67)  Yes, that is old. OS release v5.0.0.1075 is the latest.
