I'd suggest not letting your phone take a swim in beer. Mine did for a whole two seconds and the back screen doesn't work at all anymore. Tried drying it out and the rice thing. No go. Thank goodness Verizon screwed up and sent me a renewal for my Tour 2 weeks after I got it for the same price as a refurbished phone.

Okay, so what do I do if I panicked and put the battery back in and tried to turn it on? I was freaking out after dropping it in a sink full of water. The other problem that complicates matters is that I am still technically an Alltel customer until AT&T buys out the rest of Alltel so I have no idea where to take my phone if it needs to be serviced. Please help I need my phone in working order as soon as possible because I have a cousin driving out to see me who needs to stay in contact with me while she's driving out here to make sure she doesn't get lost.

Water damage results in...well...unpredictable results. Anything can happen. Water is an very good conductor of electricity. Putting the battery back in while it was wet could have done...anything. There's no way for us, via this medium of communication, to know. But, here's the best process I've found:

Do it. Now. Run. Don't walk.

As for your service provider -- you need to contact them to find out that answer. I'd start with Alltel and see how they guide you. But, be advised -- water damage is not covered under warranty. If you purchased additional insurance, it might be covered...but again, your service provider will be your guide.

If you really need an immediate fix, then get a new phone.

Unfortunately wen i was @ the park wit my friends we had a water fight n my blackberry got SOAKED after leaving the battery out for a daii n dried my blackberry it was workiing perfectly, 4 daiis l8r my fonee started typing "jkjkjkjkjkjkjkjkj" over nonstop and then all the keys jus stopped workin sum luck i got  :-/

All of which completely validates the "unpredictable results" of water damage. It can be immediate or it can be delayed. It can be nothing or it can be catastrophic. And, finally, it can be anything within the range of those boundaries.

It's all a matter of luck.  No doubt NOT switching the phone on is sensible advice but who knows that unless they are aware of the danger of switching it on.    With mine, which was left in my trouser pocket for a full wash, it was in a case and although the water indictors on the phone and battery were bright red there was hardly any sign of moisure, let along water.  No sign of moisture on the LED screen even. However it was dead.  Dismanted it carefully  using the proper tools and each one of the cable connectors showed a green deposit ( after only a few hours).  Used an electrical contact spray a sparingly,  then a fine brush(like you would get to clean the head of an electric razor)  to clean the contacts removing all traces of discolourment.

I would like to end the story on a happy note but I'm afraid it is still dead despite trying another battery so I think the 'rice' remedy is a bit of a myth, because if it has had a good soaking there is no way rice is going to clean the contacts in the way I have described above. That's why I believe it's a matter of luck and how mucho f a soaking it has had.

Bitten the bullet and bought another one.

The best thing is to remove the battery ASAP and dry it out for a more than a few days in rice.

with the battery still powering the device while wet, wil short or burn out components.

Hi everyone, my 8900 fell face down in a paddle of water only the face (screen n keypad) came in contact with water. I sucked out the water i could took the battery out and place next to my stomach for some heat till i got home and put it at the back of my tv. the following morning i tried it it starts up, passes the security check but my keypad is unresponsive. Do u know what i should do?

you let a night on the TV.... that was off. I think you should immediately put your device without battery in a sand of dry rice and put all that on a source of warmth.

wait 48h before trying it it works better.

chances are that corrosion has already attained the contacts of your keyboard though.

The tv ws on, we had a few movies to watch that night and the battery was disconnected, the keybord nw has selective keys workin but still generaly unresponsive. Would you know how to fix it if corrosion has taken place and how would i go about it?
