KB16068 - Perform a web-based BlackBerry Device Software upgrade
update: looks like RIM just pulled this KB from the BTSC ...and the /upgrades url doesn't work ... but something is in the works.

ProcedureTo perform web-based BlackBerry Device Software upgrades, the BlackBerry smartphone user must complete the following steps:
- Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB connection.
- On the computer, navigate to www.blackberry.com/upgrades.
- Click Upgrade.
- If the Application Loader tool is not installed on the computer, complete the following steps:
- Select Save.
- Select Run.
- Select Run.
- Restart the computer.
- On the computer, navigate to www.blackberry.com/upgrades.
- Click Upgrade.
- In the Device Connection dialog box, type the password for the BlackBerry smartphone.
- Complete the on-screen instructions to complete the following tasks:
- Back up or restore BlackBerry smartphone data
- Add or remove applications or support for languages

guessing on how things like this have been historically ... I'd say a week before it or something like it pops up again.
But then again, this is RIM; we've been surprised before!

I tried it, no upgrade since I am running the latest version, I am told. The process was smooth though--as far as I got.
