Application status post device OS Upgrade

Hi,

I have developed a simple bb application I have made application auto run on startup.

If device goes for OS upgrade,I am not getting application seen in Blackberry device.

If i make an application without autorun on start up,But across OS upgrade application existts,But state of application is gone,It is coming like new instally application.

State of the application is handled by PersistantStorage,How to handle PersistantStorage DB across OS upgrade.

Thanks

Rakesh

Re: Application status post device OS Upgrade

You'll need to implement backup and restore features in order for you presistent objects to be retained after an OS upgrade.  If it's just configuration data, you can use the approach described here:  Backup and restore small amounts of data using SyncItem

If you have a larger data set, refer to this document:  Backing up data

Hi Mark,

Thanks for reply.

Problem here is, when i selected "AutoStart" Option in ApplicationDescriptior.xml. Application itself got removed.  after device OS Upgrade. Is this default behaviour ?

But when i unselected "Autostart" option, application is exists with the persistent storage not available(Removed).

May i know why is this happend...?

Thanks

Re: Application status post device OS Upgrade

Application's shouldn't be removed during an OS upgrade.  I haven't heard of that happening before.  What behaviour do you see there?  Is the icon removed, is the application no longer listed under Options, Applications (Modules)?

It is expected that persistent objects are removed, which is why backup/restore is required to perserve those.

Re: Application status post device OS Upgrade

I found out the reason for the nature of this issue.

Reason is

When we are installing the application through JavaLoader we are getting this issue,When we install it through the DesktopManager or OTA,After OS upgrade Application is there.

Thanks

Re: Application status post device OS Upgrade

I am facing the weird issue of application getting removed at the time of downgrade of operating system. It is happening at the US in 9900 customer device. But in India  I am not getting any update or downgrade for 9900 device,

If i downgrade CDMA based devices such as 9930 and 9650 while testing it out in india in GSM network as GSM device,Application gets retained at the time of OS upgrade or downgrade.

Is this issue based on Country Specific or Carrier specific?

Thanks

Rakesh

Re: Application status post device OS Upgrade

Backup and restore won't always work when downgrading, depending on the versions being used.  I wonder why they are downgrading the OS in the first place.
