BlackBerry JDE JAR files no longer function after WinRAR is installed

by BlackBerry Development Advisor ‎02-16-2010 11:19 AM - edited ‎02-17-2010 12:28 PM (2,879 Views)

This article applies to the BlackBerry® Java™ Development Environment (JDE).

If you install WinRAR on a computer where BlackBerry Java Development Environment (JDE) software is already installed, JAR files included within the BlackBerry JDE software (such as SignatureTool.jar) no longer function.

WinRAR and BlackBerry JDE software have file associations with the JAR file type. When WinRAR is installed, JAR files are associated to open with WinRAR instead of the BlackBerry JDE.

WinRAR and the BlackBerry JDE can be used on the same computer, but you can perform the following steps to remove the JAR file association from WinRAR:

  1. Open WinRAR.
  2. Click Options > Settings.
  3. Click the Integration tab.

A list of all associated file types for WinRAR appears.

  4. Clear the JAR option and click OK
