Apologies if I missed this earlier in the thread.

Is there a list anywhere of the carrier names that will actually show up when you call getCurrentNetworkName()? I saw the list (thank you, by the way) of APN's/etc. to supply - but I don't have a phone on all the networks so I wasn't sure what they would actually be called ("T-Mobile", "TMobile", "T_Mobile", etc.).

I finally got the whole connection choice problem taken care of thanks to the sample code provided in this thread.  Then I run into the issue of breaking files into chunks as discussed here:

Now I need to combine the samples into a massive WIFI, WAP, TCP, BIS, or just plain old BS download system, then download them as chunks, then recombine the chunks, all to download a 1MB file.  That is nothing short of ridiculous!!!  RIM should have known that people were going to ummm try to download files using HttpConnections.... (Sorry to rant)

Main problem is I can’t create the tcp connection on the real device (7130). I’ve read your thread. I’ve tried every combination of the parameters. But I’m getting the same error: “Malformed Address. Returning null connection”

For a great explanation of what actually goes on behind the scenes in Direct TCP and WAP, please look at this Post:

The better you understand the structure your app is built on, the better you will understand any problems that occur with it, so I recommend that you review this if using Direct TCP or WAP.

I'm extremely new to both RIM development and Java development; I started because there were apps I wanted for my Blackberry that I couldn't find.  Reading this thread makes me despair of ever creating a network capable application.

That being said, this is an excellent thread and an amazing resource.  Do you think it would be helpful to add a post for individual developers...kind of a "if you're working with RIM API's because you're sick of seeing "<insert application name> for iPhone only" and want to write an app with network connectivity for your Blackberry only"
