I would like to create a simple appealing user interface for a BB application wtth OS 4.5. I would like to change the background color of the screen, buttons, change the font size and color. Is it possible to do it. If so let me know how it could be done

all possible, with the exception of the buttons, which are controlled by the theme.
you'll have to create custom buttons.

This works fine for BB OS 4.6 onwards. I wanted for BB OS 4.5 and below

for the background you can utilize paintBackground (does not work with mainscreen, use an extra manager there).
all other APIs are available in 4.5
