From what I have seen and read in the forums I find only possible to get the carrier's cell which the device is currently connected to.
Is there any way to get the rest of the cells which are in range?

No, this is not currently supported.

Any idea if it would be included in a future JDE?
It is interesting that you can get the current Cell ID even if the device has no simcard.

The device can connect with a local cell tower without a sim card to make emergency calls (i.e. 911).

Yes, and also you can get the cell id.
Any idea if RIM is planning to add a [Cell] getNearbyCells() to any API in the future?
There are a lot of cool features that can be done with this, but with this restriction is not possible.

I've already done it, and they just said "won't fix".
But I woul'd like to know if it's a hardware restriction, or a software restriction.
