are you asking for bb10 development? or maybe java on bb os?
I am only asking because GaugeField is an UI component from the old java bb os.

No problem, i've asked a moderator to move the post.

 

You could try to override the paint function, set a different color in the graphics object and call super.paint.

Not sure what this will result in, you'll have to test it.

Otherwise it may not be possible to change the field in the way you want, you'd either have to live with it or write a custom field.

you'll have to do a custom field, then.
you can take a look at the bitmapgaugefield, maybe it fits some of your requirements:
