We are trying to sell our blackberry application to a cell phone carrier and the carrier wants to install the app on the blackberry phone as VPL. I have been looking for any information/documentation on how to make my application available on the blackberry phone as Virtual Preload. So far I have been unable to find any information on how to support VPL. I am searched though blackberry forums and did not find any relevant topic on this.
Can somebody provide me any insight into how to support VPL? Any reference to documentation will be a big help.
Thanks,
Sushil.

The carrier should contact RIM to configure this. This is not something that you, as a third party developer can configure within your application.

Thanks Mark. I was expecting similar answer, but just wanted a confirmation. We will get in touch with the carrier.

One more question on VPL.
As a thirdparty developer, do we need to do any additional development acativity to support VPL? What specific thing we need to provide to the carrier to make VPL happen?

No, an application should not need any customization to support this.

Hi
Our product is hosted as VPL application by the carrier in Blackberry devices. We have given a URL(say http://abcd ) for downloading the build to the carrier. The VPL icon redirects to this URL for downloading.
And my question is that, we have changed the executables for a bug fix and we replaced with the old files with the new ones. But if we try to launch from VPL icon, it still downloads the old build. But if I directly hit "http://adcd", it downloads the new build. I cleared the cache in the phone, still it downloads the old build. We did not changed the version number of the builds, after bug fix.
Does anything has to be done by RIM, to get the new builds? (Means any caching)
Or what is the process to update an exiting VPL application?

Do you have a contact at RIM who set up your VPL? If so, they should be the one to contact.
If not, can you provide the carrier and application name?

Hi Mark,
I have one question on VPL. Will the user be notified with there is a upgrade of the VPL application?
Thanks.
