IOException - Invalid URL Parameter when using deviceside=false

by BlackBerry Development Advisor on ‎02-17-2010 01:05 PM - edited on ‎11-22-2010 07:31 PM by Anonymous(anon) (4,112 Views)

Summary

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® smartphones based on Java® technology

Details

Problem

When attempting to create a socket or Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) connection using the ;deviceside=false parameter, an IOException occurs with the reason of Invalid URL Parameter. For more information on the deviceside parameter, see this article.

Cause

The BlackBerry smartphone is not enabled for the BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) component of a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server. The ;deviceside=false parameter instructs the BlackBerry smartphone to initiate the connection through BlackBerry MDS on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Since this route is not available to the BlackBerry smartphone, an IOException occurs.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, complete one of the following:

  • Add the BlackBerry smartphone to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and enable access to the BlackBerry MDS.
  • Use another connection route, as described in this article.
