I'm developing an application for a client in Jamaica and I'm having issues with the application when it tries to connect to the internet. The application connects to web services via https over the internet. I have not posted the application onto BB App World because I need to resolve this issue. Therefore, I'm downloading the application (JAD and JAR) by hosting it on an internal website so it can be downloaded by a few people on my QA team.
I'm testing with an AT&T BB 8900 (Curve) in the US with the APN settings provided by AT&T. When I leave the application network settings on DEFAULT or WIFI, it works on my handset in the US. When I attempt to test on a Digicel BB 9800 (Torch) in Jamaica, I get the following message: "An error occurred while connecting to internet. Please check internet connection." Granted the network settings for the app are set to DEFAULT but the APN is not set for this BlackBerry as specified by the operator, Digicel - Jamaica.
I spoke with Digicel Jamaica customer care to determine the proper APN settings for the Torch (9800) and I did not see a place on the Torch (9800) to enter the APN but only the username and password. Even entering that information received from the operator, it did not work. It does however work when the network settings are set to WIFI. Digicel customer care told me that if I set these values then the customer will be charged for data rather than the unlimited data available on the customer's plan.
This is obviously an issue because I don't want to deploy an application where customers that have unlimited data are charged for data services because they are going through the APN.
Can anyone help? What other information about the application, settings, etc. do you need?

Welcome to the forum.
I suspect there is a bucket load of reading for you to understand all the optins with respect to connections.
Here is a good place to start:
