J2ME GPS

Hello,

I am looking for a simple J2ME GPS source code to test in my blackberry JDE and simulator.

Before I learn J2ME GPS, I first want to download a sample source code, compile, and test the application.

I googled some of them, but lots of them look commercial or do not provide source codes to download.

Please let me know the link if you know any relevant GPS web site.

Thanks in advance.

Re: J2ME GPS

The JDE's provide at least one GPS demo but IIRC it references a server component that is a bit confusing

and doesn't illustrate GPS functionality. I think you are looking for LocationProvider but the demo is something obvious

like "GPSDemo". Note that you need a location provider- either a literal GPS system or cell tower based info

( or your own pseudo-lites for a home brew system). Carriers should make their policies on providing the data clear but

this isn't always the case so you can spend hours guessing...

Within the RIM classes, I found these references to GPS tha may or may not beuseful,

$ grep -il "gps" *
blackberry.api.invoke.MapsArguments.txt
device.api.crypto.tls.wtls20.package-summary.txt
device.api.crypto.tls.wtls20.package-tree.txt
device.api.gps.GPSSettings.txt
device.api.gps.package-frame.txt
device.api.gps.package-summary.txt
device.api.gps.package-tree.txt
device.api.i18n.package-summary.txt
device.api.i18n.package-tree.txt
device.api.system.CDMAInfo.txt

Re: J2ME GPS

Hello,

My application so far is pure J2ME using midlet (ex. import javax.microedition.midletimport javax.microedition.midlet.*), so I am wondering if I can combine above source codes to my existing application. I am planning to use my application to other wireless devices as well.

Any advice  for J2ME version GPS?

Thanks for your reply.

Re: J2ME GPS

BlackBerry devices support JSR 179, which is the standard set of J2ME APIs used for accessing GPS.  It is not a BlackBerry specific API.

However, if you wish to integrate with BlackBerry Maps you would need to use BlackBerry specific APIs.
