Java application access to a Camera on BlackBerry

A java application developed by us would need to interact with the photo camera of BlackBerry terminals. I would very much appreciate to know if that is possible and if so, with which terminals and versions of the OS would it work.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Java application access to a Camera on BlackBerry

In v4.6 and higher you can use JSR-135 to embed the camera field into your application using VideoControl and take pictures using VideoControl.getSnapshot.

For prior versions, you can invoke the camera to then have the user take the picture which you can detect via the file system journal listeners.  There is a sample on how to accomplish this within the 4.3 JDE and higher.

Re: Java application access to a Camera on BlackBerry

Thanks, will follow your suggestions.

The application is a 2D code (datamatrix) reader, so it needs to talk directly with the camera so as to do zoom, etc.

I might have to come back to you.

Thanks again,

Adolfo

Re: Java application access to a Camera on BlackBerry

Can I do this using Blackberry JDE 4.2.0? If so, do you have a code snippet I can use to start?

Thanks in advance.
