Java part of BB 10?

There is a lot of info for new BB developers about v.10.

There are a lot of tools available for v.10 as well.

Does anyone know if the 'plain' java apps will be part of BB 10?

That is, if I write a Java app for BB, is it considered to be an older version like 7?

We would like to make a java app for BB but start support with BB10.

Thanks to all for the help!

No.

If you want to write an app for BB10 you should use ActionScript or Cascades

Re: Java part of BB 10?

there will not be a direct java support.
there is an android player, but it does not offer all features.
the supported development methods are:
c++ (and cascades UI framework), adobe air, html5/webworks and android (player only)

Re: Java part of BB 10?

This is the bit I don't understand. RIM making the new release available with no java compiler, I am sure they are going to lose a lot of developers that simply don't know C++ or are really bad at it.

Re: Java part of BB 10?

But I have seen nothing that explains why they have made that decision,  it was a pretty bold move given that all their current developers are working in java.   Iwould have thought they had enough problems right now without alienating their developer base.   At least it is not objective c though.

Re: Java part of BB 10?

Interesting thread. QNX has a JRE, I wonder if it can be used on the new BB,   don't have one so I can't try it :smileysad:

This is the reason I was asking about Java. For example, when you 'convert' an Android app to BB10 the docs say you create a .BAR file that the virtual machine will be able to execute.

So, that infers there is some variation of Java support in BB10.

Oh well.

Thanks to all for the information!
