Limited colors on Storm display???

Hello, I have a very odd effect with an image I use as background. I have a very smooth shaded image which still have limited color set. But in the simulator and on device it shows horizontal strips where different color changes are clearly visible. How can this be explained?

Not smooth on display.

Re: Limited colors on Storm display???

The Storm's screen is 16bit, your computer monitor is 32bit. Take the Smooth shaded image and open it in MS Paint. Save it as a 256 Color bitmap. The bitmap is an 8bit bitmap but the effect is the same.

Re: Limited colors on Storm display???

I don't belive that is the case, having strougled with such issues that may improve it, but the lining will continue,  I think it has something to with screen drawing logic in the hardware layer about how color look next to each other, but then i am no expert.

Doing a graphics.drawShadedFilledPath() from top to bottom with the same color difference will likely give similar look and feel.

Re: Limited colors on Storm display???

This post is a little old, but for the record, the devices can't show this many colors. If you go to Plazmic Composer and save an image as PNG optimized for Blackberry, it saves it as PNG8 with 565 color space. This is according to RIM information given out at 2009 Dev Con. So it's not nearly 16 bit color. That's why you get the banding.

Re: Limited colors on Storm display???

5 + 6 + 5 = 16 bit color, so that is a total of 16 bites for all colors, rather than 16 bits per color?
