Maps look weird in the simulator

I just started with working with the simulator.  When I run Maps or the MapField demo the map is very odd looking - see attached image.  There are no street names or place names, etc.  Is that how it's supposed to look?  Is that what it looks like on an actual phone?

With my experience , i have found that maps generally do not look good in simulator..........But on actual phone maps application look better, so no need to worry at all.

I see it now, that does look a little odd but isn't too far off.
