Notifications when app not running

Hi,

I have the fallowing scenario:

App is in trial and I need to nag the user to get the full version at certain periods. (15 days 3 days 1 day..something like this)

I there a way to register at some service so I can deliver this nags even when the app is not running?

One solution I can think of is have another background app that only deals with these notifications. Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Alex

Re: Notifications when app not running

the background app would be a good solution i think.

or maybe schedule your app to run
http://www.blackberry.com/developers/docs/7.0.0api/net/rim/device/api/system/ApplicationManager.html... long, boolean)

(but i think the background approach is more elegant)

Re: Notifications when app not running

Hi Alex,

Using the ApplicationManager you can schedule an application to run at specific time:

http://www.blackberry.com/developers/docs/5.0.0api/net/rim/device/api/system/ApplicationManager.html...

Hope that helps,

Re: Notifications when app not running

Ok,

Thanks guys for the fast responses.

I could schedule the app to start at specific times, put it in background and have the little red star displayed in the area where the new sms icon is displayed.

is this a reasonable approach?

(sorry for me not using the right terms, but I am fairly new to BBs)

Re: Notifications when app not running

Hi Alex,

I would have consider also adding an Application Message that would contain a link for the download.

Here is the link for the API:

http://www.blackberry.com/developers/docs/5.0.0api/net/rim/blackberry/api/messagelist/ApplicationMes...

Also, make sure to read the documentation carefully to know when the scheduling can stop working.
