You have to do it in two applications. One for play back and the other one for recording.

How did you succeed ?

I used your approach and got a silent gap in the recording while player was active (AMR).

(In the process I discovered a way to programatically invoke a restart of the device )

What do you mean a silent gap in the recording? Also, what do you mean by restart of the device?

Well...

I start the player... After a while I start the recorder (overlapping the player).

Then I stop the player.

After a while I stop the recorder and start the playback.

In the playback the overlapping part is silent (full duplex not working ) but the rest of audio is fine.

I am recording and playing AMR.

You have to start the recorder first, then the player. Starting them in a the reverse order does not work. I do not know why.
