RIM Blackberry OS 6

Hi,

Just read a news about BB OS 6.0.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/29/rim_blackberry_os_6/

Do anyone have idea about when it can be available, also which devices can be upgradable to 6.0?

I am asking this because there is a line in news which says "Most of BlackBerry's core apps will be redesigned for 6.0".

Re: RIM Blackberry OS 6

Yes many core apps will be "updated."

6.0 is supposed to come out "next quarter" (aka July-September) and RIM said they wanted it to be on as many BlackBerry's as possible though wouldn't guarantee it or specify which ones.

Info on the OS is scarce besides what people have made out of their "marketing video", I guess you can call it.

I would hope they post up API details soon since some have some big apps that need to be updated.

Re: RIM Blackberry OS 6

As noted above, there has been no commitment from RIM.  I guess it is safe to assume the following:

a) Storm 2, 9700, 9100 or 9650  to be upgradeable

b) Anything which does not have a current upgrade path to OS 5.0 will not run OS 6.0

Beyond that, I wouldn't guess...

Just updating this thread,

in the recent developer webinar, Blackberry have still not open their cards regarding the device models that can support OS 6.

Re: RIM Blackberry OS 6

Anyone have any guesses what will be in API 6.0?

Based on the recently released 2010 Dev Con Catalog I made the following list:

"Possible" Barcode API (COM20)
Universal Search API (DEV06)
Updated Map API (DEV13)
UI API (DEV28)

        Model View Controller
        ScrollView
        ProgressIndicator
        Panes
        Capabilities (?)
        Toolbar
        AbsoulteFieldManager
        StringProvider (?)
Command API (DEV29)
Network API (DEV32)
        TransportDetective
        URLFactory

Anybody else have any ideas?

No idea, but I'll see you all at those sessions :smileyvery-happy:

Re: RIM Blackberry OS 6

I wish I could go, busy. I'm really happy about the Toolbar field, I messed around with the leaked one in the 5.0 beta and could do anything except use text because it required StringProvider (I think).

I'm more hoping that the GUI builder comes out and want to find out what the "Capability" API/class is.
