Resigning an App World app with new Keys

[ Edited ]

Hello there, I have an application on App World. I plan to change my signing keys (please don't ask why). I have two questions for this issue.

when I upload a new version of my application to App World with new signing keys.

- Will the new application will override the application in the device of the users. (Wil the older version be erased)

- Will persistentstore and recordstore objects remain from the previous version. (Can I continue using the saved user data.)

Thanks,

Onur

You can change code signing keys with no impact on BlackBerry OS 7.1 and lower.

There are issues if you change keys used to sign BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 applications.

Happy that changing signing key will not impact persistent store and will still allow Application replacement.  My concern is around BBM.  Are there any implications for BBM if you sign with a different key?

No, not for OS 7.  The UUID is the important variable to keep the same for new versions of BBM connection applications.

Re: Resigning an App World app with new Keys

My understanding is that the UUID specified in the application is not used once the App is in App World. Instead App World creates its own UUID, which I thought it created using the signing key.  So changing the signing key will change the UUID and as a result, BBM will see the new application as a different application.

It's not related to signing keys.  You are correct, but if you do change the UUID you'll run into some testing headaches before you get into BlackBerry World.
