Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

[ Edited ]

I say nice things to my "crappy" vista so that it wont crash and hang.

If i'm in a bad mood I curse Windows and <removed> why it takes so long to boot up every reset.

Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

^^ It takes about 20 seconds to start on my main machine at home. It takes about 5-10 minutes to start on my work machine depending on other things I have running. The simulator really loves beefy machines, but hates the "generic" workstation PC that most workplaces have.

Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

@dnepr Agreed, though I only have the "main machine at home." I usually read one or two forum posts before the sim is up and running.

Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

What is your work style like?

Myself, I like to make small changes and test them out on the simulator.  But with this style I am spending a lot of time waiting for the simulator.

I so wish I could speed this up.

When you say in debug mode, I assume you mean attaching the JDE to the simulator. Yeah, it takes less than a minute.

I usually let the simulator running all the time. When I need to debug my app, I load the cod into the simulator, then attach the jde to it. The whole process does take less than a minute except the first time.

Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

Does anyone else see the problem with this question?

Developers shouldn't have to wait for a simulator to boot. It is simply a waste of time.

"Does anyone else see the problem with this question?"

I think everyone does.  The problem is a given, the question is what we do about it!  A light hearted discussion around this topic doesn't hurt does it?

I suspect RIM are well aware that faster Simulators are a good thing.  Especially since their developers must use them all the time.

Re: Survey: How do you spend your time while the simulator is booting?

Agreed, though to be fair, Android simulators require booting as well. It's definitly come a good ways though, I remeber when it took 10min to start... or maybe that was just a slower computer.
