Uncaught exception in application_Manager

When installing an app that has a autostarted background module(Phone listener and some) I get:

Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_trust_application_manager (297) is not responding; process terminated. The background process is not started. The module is not started

I pull the battery and when the phone has started again I get the screen asking for permissions that I have programmed into the module shows. After replying save to the settings  the background module is running fine.

It seems that the crash occurs when the API wants to ask the user to give the background module "trusted status". since my prompt asking for permissions never show

The app is developed on 5.0 and the phone is  a Torch running 6.0.0.668. I have had this problem before and now it has started to show up again

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

When running debug as device from eclipse the prompts for trusted app shows and everything works fine

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

do you use a separate application instance for your autostart?
If not, try that, i had some problems with the permission prompts when they were done from a static context.

if that does not help you don't have many options, open a bug in jira maybe.

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

Thanks.  Let me see if I understand you correctly. I am using the desktop manager. I have an ALX that  specifies 3 projects in eclipse.  I tested to remove the other 2 and only had the autostart background in the alx.  Seemed to work ok then.  Do you mean that I should treat them as 2 different apps and do 2 installs with desktop manager.  One with the background autostart module and one with the other 2?

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

Thanks simon

I do not have a separate ALX for autostart. The autostart module and the 2 application modules are in the same alx.

I tested by removiong the 2 application modules from the alx and only kept the autostart.Install by Desktop manager.

Did no experience any problem starting the autostart module then. Your suggestion is to do it as 2 installs with separate 2 separate alx files?

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

no, i don't mean applications as in different projects, i only mean the application class.
for our autostart part we create an Application instance and let it enter the event dispatcher.
(it is one cod from one project)

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

Hi simon.

Not sure if it works with the setup we have. The GUI and main code is a J2ME module and is developed by another person in another physical location. My system/autostart module handles various listeners and action threads.

It seems to work a bit better if I put the system module as the last entry in the ALX. I still get som uncaught exceptions at startup but after that everything works ok.

Re: Uncaught exception in application_Manager

then it is most likely a timing issue.

do you have a loop that checks for the device to be ready at startup?

if not, give it a try.

ApplicationManager app = ApplicationManager.getApplicationManager();
	while (app.inStartup()) {
		try {
			Thread.sleep(400);
		} catch (InterruptedException e) {
		}
	}
new AutoStartApplication().enterEventDispatcher();
