Update the Path environment variable

Summary


This article applies to the following:


  • BlackBerry® Java™ Development Environment (JDE)
  • BlackBerry Email Server Simulator
  • BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Simulator.


Procedure


When you add the directory of a Java software development kit (SDK) or Java Development Kit (JDK), use the bin directory under the installation directory. Depending on the Control Panel layout you are using, complete one of the following procedures:


To update the Path environment variable in Microsoft® Windows® XP using the Windows XP Control Panel layout


  1. Open the Control Panel and click Performance and Maintenance.
  2. Select System.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
  4. Under System variables, select the Path variable and click Edit.
  5. At the beginning of the Variable value field, type the path you wish to add followed by a semicolon (; ).
  6. Click OK to save and close the Environment Variables window.

OR


To update the Path environment variable in Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP using the classic Control Panel layout

  1. Open the Control Panel and select System.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
  3. Under System variables, select the Path variable and click Edit.
  4. At the beginning of the Variable value field, type the path you wish to add followed by a semicolon (; ).
  5. Click OK to save and close the Environment Variables window.

Note: For these changes to take effect, restart running applications and re-open the command prompt windows that were previously opened.
