how to configure Eclipse IDE with GitHub

[ Edited ]

Hi friends,

I want to configure my eclipse () with GitHub. I am using the latest one given on Eclipse Classic 3.7.2.

I have gone through some links:

1) http://www.dennisplucinik.com/blog/2011/03/25/uploading-a-project-to-github/

2) http://www.vogella.com/articles/Git/article.html

3) http://www.vogella.com/articles/EGit/article.html

and some other help-links given on github website. But still can't get the solution.

According to initial steps given in the third link...I hv installed all the required resources...From eclipse's Help-> Install New Software menu item. But whatever window-screen shots has given into the further steps, when I try to go to those steps into eclipse, I did not find the same options / windows step by step....???

I think that tutorial - 3) is related to some older version of eclipse...

Pls suggest any guide from which I can configure the latest version of eclipse. I am not habitual of using Linux/ Unix shell system, so configuring local folders with GitHub from Bash-shell will be a complication for me...

:smileysad:

regards,

Rajani

Re: how to configure Eclipse IDE with GitHub

github offers a nice windows UI, just recently read an article about it.
eGit is not really far developed, we use it but regularly swear at it.
take a look, if you still want to use eGit i can help you with the basic steps i guess.

Simon, As I told that I have already installed all the required resources for eGit. So now if I work with windows ui provided by github then, shuld I uninstall and the reinstall the eclipse again???

Do you find using "eGit" a bit complicated as u wrote “eGit is not really far developed, we use it but regularly swear at it…” or there is some other reason.

I think I am far from 2-3 steps of final configuration of eGit in eclipse .....so pls tell me the steps, whr i do wrong… I also want to get the knowledge about “windows UI” provided by github. So would u tell me pls which article u read about that...  First I want learn how to work with eGit than I’ll go for windows-ui.

Re: how to configure Eclipse IDE with GitHub

here is the article about the windows tool:
http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/05/hands-on-github-for-windows-takes-the-pain-out...

for eGit, you use window/show view/git/git repositories, choose clone git repository and enter the location of the respository, then clone it to your local drive and import it as a workspace in eclipse.
you can then use the team context menu item on the project to pull (or, if you are allowed, to commit etc).

there are quite some guides out there i fathom.
