how to create custom toolbar menu at the top of my application

[ Edited ]

Hello please i am building my first blackberry app and for my application i would like to build a toolbar menu at the top of the screen, something similar to that of twitter and should be able to work on os5 devices. i have seen the tutorial http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/18125/Toolbar_1247236_11.jsp about creating toolbars at the bottom but i havent tried it out because i want the toolbar at the top and dont think it would work for my curve2. would really appreciate it if someone can tell me how to do this.

Re: how to create custom toolbar menu at the top of my application

Welcome to the forums.

First thing to note that on non touch screen devices, tool bars are actually not that useful. - menus provide an easier to use way of providing 'actions' that users can initiate, and they do it without taking up screen space.

However you should be able to create a useful toolbar by putting together some Buttons, an EquallySpaced manager from here:

and putting these in the title area of a MainScreen, see

I recommend that you actually just cut and paste the classes you need from the Advanced UI source, rather than trying to treat it as a library.

You will find this challenging I expect, but give it a go, and remember to do it step at a time, don't try to code it all at once, because it break in loads of places and you won't know where.

Good luck.
