sms question

Hi all,

We can change the sms coding format manually by going to

options-> SMS->  Data Coding.

I want to change the encoding type programatically. Is it possible to do this ??

thanks

Re: sms question

It is not possible for to programmatically change this setting.

However, when a third-party app sends an SMS using the JSR120/205 Wireless Messaging API they could send the SMS using the DatagramConnection method and invokes setMessageCoding() on the net.rim.device.api.system.SMSPacketHeader object for the datagram.  Otherwise, MessageConnection.send(TextMessage) chooses the most efficient encoding.  In GSM, the basic 7-bit ASCII encoding is used unless there are complex characters that have no representation in this encoding, in which case it uses UCS-2.  There is similar logic for CDMA which uses slightly different encodings.
