How to set an Application Name that Requires Unicode Characters

Problem

 

Creating an application name with non ASCII characters can result in the application name being shown with only the ? character or corrupt characters when deployed to a BlackBerry® device.

 

This field only supports ASCII charcters:

Cause

 

The default application name only supports ASCII characters.

 

Workaround

 

Enter the application name using unicode characters for languages set on the Localization tab of the bar-descriptor.xml editor.  If you wish to show the same application name for all languages, create entries for all languages on the Localiztion tab that contain the application name in unicode characters.  This will override the default name specified on the Application tab.
