Error Running Sample Native 2.0 Apps on Simulator

Hey All,

I'm an experienced C and OpenGl programmer just getting started with playbook development (Native SDK 2.0), but I seem to be having some issues that I can't resolve or find solutions to.  I have been able to build, link and compile all code (samples and new OpenGL project), but I can't really get any running on my simulator (2.0 as well).  The only program I have been able to run on the simulator is the HelloWorldDisplay sample, but even then it does not always want to run giving me this error:

Deployment Failed: Info: Sending request: Install and Launch

Info: Action: Install and Launch

Info: Debug native: on

Info: File size: 1086316

Info: Installing com.example.HelloWorldDisplay.testDev_orldDisplaya6725cf1...

Info: Processing 1086316 bytes

My simulator is running and connected, and the active build configuration is set to Simulator-Debug.  I have verified the IP as well.  It is a complete mystery to me why the HelloWorld program will run sometimes, but not always.  Also, sometimes I get it transferred to the device, and it pops up, then closes, giving this error:  Unable to start HelloWorldDisplay due to error 9 (also sometimes error 3).

Even stranger, I just compiled the default OpenGL Es 1.1 project and it didn't work initially.  I restarted the simulator, it booted, and the app was installed and working.

I also occasionally get this error:

Unable to determine returned PID from launch.

Any help? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Error Running Sample Native 2.0 Apps on Simulator

I was getting "error 9" as well.

How I Fixed The Issue:
I restarted my Playbook.

Then refreshed.
Select build.

Test.

No more error 9!!

Re: Error Running Sample Native 2.0 Apps on Simulator

Has anybody been able to figure out the cause of errors 3 and 9? Sometimes my app builds, sometimes it doesn't, and it's becoming very annoying and extremely frustrating.

Re: Error Running Sample Native 2.0 Apps on Simulator

We're looking into the cause of this error but have been unable to reproduce it so far.  Please provide the following information about your environment.

  • Which 2.0 beta is being used (please upgrade to the most recent beta 3 if you are using an older version)
  • Computer OS and version
  • Version of VMWare
  • Simulator or real BlackBerry PlayBook
  • If real PlayBook, is it connected using WiFi or USB

In the bar-descriptor.xml, do you have (valid) entries in the General tab?  I.E something like 1.0.0 filled in for version?
