Is it possible to move the navigation pane to the background or hide the navigation pane?

I'm trying to create a new input method when the user wants to enter a number.  I don't want to use the default virtual keyboard.

 

I have the ability to display my new input keyboard when the user selects the text they want to edit.  But my keyboard pops up below the navigation bar.

 

I don't know how to pop up my custom input keyboard above the navigation bar. 

 

The default virtual keyboard pops up above the navigation bar.  This is the behavior I want.

 

Anyone know how to do this?  Or is it possible?  If not can I hide the navigation bar?

Can you clarify which "navigation pane" and "navigation bar" you're talking about? Is this a question that should be in the Cascades forum?
