In the native maps app there are some normal cascades buttons but with a black shade rather than a grey shade - anyone know how I could do something similar?

So you want to achieve the same style as that button?
I guess you can use an ImageButton for that and use nine-slicing.
Don't know if it's possible to use a nine-sliced image with a ImageButton control, you should just try it.
Hopefully this posted helped you a little .

I looked at the API (https://developer.blackberry.com/cascades/referenc
The Q10 for instance is by default set to the dark theme, the Z10 is by default set the light theme. So maybe have a look at that and maybe you can change the theme for your application.

Thanks, that give me the kind of buttons I require but it changes the color of titlebar as well which i could put up with but when i show filepicker it has the blue titlebar which looks odd - anyway to override theme on titlebar?
