As far as I can tell there is no way to read the BlackBerry ID associated with the PlayBook the native app is running on.
There is an API for retrieving the device PIN, shouldn't there be one for BBID as well?
Apart from the Native API, WebWorks API states it somewhat clumsily that "The Identity object contains information regarding the user's identity and accounts on a BlackBerry smartphone."
However, it seems that the WebWorks Identity object doesn't contain any user account identity either. Just the PIN.
Anyone know of any way in any of the API:s to retrieve the PlayBook's BlackBerry ID?
(I did see something in the AIR API which seemed to indicate that in AIR you can launch a BBID OS dialogue window where the user can log in with his BBID which supposedly lets you read it)
Help much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi WillemPM, welcome to the forums.
There is no BBID API available yet, and unfortunately I do not have information regarding future features in the upcoming NDK releases. This is normally done through the official RIM channels.
So, I would suggest you, to please, stay tuned within official RIM developer channels for announcements related to upcoming releases.
The main developer page https://developer.blackberry.com/ and the twitter feed: http://twitter.com/BlackBerryDev
are two good places to monitor for new information.
Cheers,

I know this is an old thread, but any update on this?
I need a reliable way to identify a given user regardless of which BB device they're using. I am surprised to find we don't yet have a public means of accessing BBID.

If security is a concern, some kind of proxy ID would be perfect. No use for it (unlike BBID which could theoretically be used to get into an account if you could guess the password) but instead some kind of hash guaranteed unique for a given BBID.
