Not related to the recent blog post on texture compression? (Sorry if you've already seen it -- seems like you've done a lot of research into your issue.)

No, it's not related to texture compression.  We check for supported formats in runtime and act acordingly.

Just to inform the public that I have found the cause of the problem; if was different swap buffer preservation policy (EGL_SWAP_BEHAVIOR) on Adreno chips. 

 

 

I had to insert something like:

 

eglSurfaceAttrib(display, surface, EGL_SWAP_BEHAVIOR, EGL_BUFFER_PRESERVED);
