I just wanted to give anyone here with designs on creating a 3d game or application in the near future a heads up on Stonetrip's ShiVa3d multi-platform development engine. You may or may not have heard of it.
It's primarily designed for developing 3d Games or Applications. Recently, Stonetrip released a new version of their UAT software (Unified Authoring Tool) which now supports exporting natively compiled BAR files to Blackberry Playbook. ("Recently" meaning it's been available for several months now ).
I hope that this thread might become not only a place for new ShiVa users/existing Blackberry developers to discuss the engine and for addressing issues they might have during development but also as a crossover point between BB Native Development and the ShiVa engine. Hopefully, it will be possible to export a Blackberry eclipse-based project in the future and the lines between the two approaches will become more blurred.
You can check out information regarding the engine here: http://www.stonetrip.com/what-is-shiva-3d.html
To get going you need to download the Free Web edition and Unified Authoring Tool here: http://www.stonetrip.com/download.html
With this you will be able to compile and install a watermarked Blackberry app on your Playbook so you can assess how it suits/fits into your prefered ways of working.
Here is a detailed description of setting up your development environment for ShiVa-to-Blackberry development: http://www.stonetrip.com/developer/doc/authoringto
This post over at the ShiVa Developer Forum is also informative: http://www.stonetrip.com/developer/forum/viewtopic
Examples of two applications developed with ShiVa are:-
Solar System Explorer : http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/re
and my own game: Chromasphere: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/96
Any questions, please don't be afraid to ask.
PS: I don't work for Stonetrip or have any affiliations with them, I'm just a very happy customer.
