Turn WiFi Off

Dear developer community,

I've been looking into toggling bluetooth, NFC and WiFi on/off, like many geo fencing apps do. I've noticed it's possible to turn WiFi On, but not off. Can you verify this?

I guess that is a choice made due to possible security threats or what do you think is behind it? I tried to find a feature request in Jira, but couldn't find anything. Do you know if BlackBerry has answerd this request before or if there is some kind of statement? Otherwise I'll just make the Jira Request myself and see what they say.

It could be a new permission, to turn wifi on and off, so you'd have control over what the app is doing to your phone, but it really is a very useful function in my opinion.

Titus

Re: Turn WiFi Off

I'm no developer but I've spoken to a couple of devs and I can confirm for you that it is not possible to turn Wi-Fi off in a BB10 app. Legacy devices allowed it but it's no longer possible with BB10.

Cheers.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Turn WiFi Off

i wanted to write an app that turns wifi on and off as one of the first things (very useful, especially with geofencing), but as BillJ correctly told you there are no APIs for that (or rather we don't have the permissions to use them, as there is a Qt API for that)

Re: Turn WiFi Off

I think I'll open up a Jira request ticket, as I haven't found any yet. I'll post it here so you can back it as soon as it's up :smileyhappy:

Re: Turn WiFi Off

I can't find a way to make it public, anyone an idea?
Are you logged in into JIRA?

Wow, when trying to login with an alternative BBID JIRA goes into an infinite loop!
