OK.. after running this through the multimedia guys, and some debugging (it worked fine for us), we were perplexed.

Until you mentioned in an email that you were using the simulator.

There are no codecs on the simulator.

This will play back fine on actual hardware.

In the future, please indicate what platform you are running things on when encountering problems like this

I'm hoping that this info can be added to the docs.  I also wasted a bunch of time on this :-(  If the various audio and multimedia docs stated that the only codec that worked on the simulator was for .wav, it would definitely help.
