private messages vs forum threads

I know, this not only happens for me:

getting private mails in the community-forums-inbox with questions like "How can I do this..." "Can you help me with..."

I'm sorry, but I normaly don't answer on these messages.

If you have questions, then please public here in the forum.

sometimes I have time to answer, sometimes not (have to do also customer work to live ;-)

private messages or skype or private mails will only be answered for customers paying for service

I'm doing my best to help here in the forum, to publish sample code, to write blogs or speak at conferences ...

only wanted to clarify this, so you're not thinking I'm unfriendly not answering ;-)

Re: private messages vs forum threads

I roam these forums for 5 years now, and i cannot count how many of these messages i got.
If somebody is asking really nice i write a reply (explaining why he/she should create a forum thread), otherwise i just use ignore and delete.

I don't think you have to legitimate or excuse yourself for that ekke, its somebody else being rude.

Re: private messages vs forum threads

I second (or third) that sentiment. Thankfully I don't get too many of those, but when I do my answer is always the same: I'm not here to provide personal service, for free, though I'd be happy to take your money for paid assistance.

When I post answers in the forums, it's to help as many people as possible, so post your question publicly and I'll answer publicly -- if I have an answer and time to give it. That way everyone can benefit.

If you ask a second time, you'll be added to my (short) ignore list, so don't waste either of our time please. ;-)
