8830 Killed By RIM

Yesterday i attempted to sync and update my 8830, I downloaded the software off of RIM's site, and plugged in my phone. About half way through, while "syncing the TVM" it game me a message that said "a fatal error has occurred, please restore your phone" But the desktop manager wont recognize a phone is connected... I also cant seem to find any number that would be helpful as far as service goes, anything i do find says that you need to pay for it and I really dont think i should have to pay for service on their products. Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: 8830 Killed By RIM

Hi and Welcome to the forums!

In what condition is your BB now? Is it usable? Does it still have your data? If so, then please clarify exactly what you are attempting to do...you said both sync and update...which, or exactly what are you needing to do? This KB might apply:

  • KB02696 "Unable to complete loading operation. Fatal error occurred when updating handheld" error displayed when attempting to reload software on a BlackBerry smartphone

If your BB is not usable and/or no longer has your data, then reloading the device OS would be in order:

If there are further sypmtoms or indicators, please let us know -- there are several different possible resolution paths, but they depend on your specific circumstances.

Thanks and let us know!

My BB wont do anything at all, it just has a black screen and blinks the red status light at me, blink blink, pause, blink blink, pause... and so on. I will try to reload the software per the crackberry one but my computer was not even recognizing a connected device the last time i tried it... ill  give it another whirl though

If that does not work, you may have to go the even more drastic route:

Good luck and let us know!

Re: 8830 Killed By RIM

Well after getting the run-around by RIM again about a "Trained BlackBerry specialist in your local Verizon store," I went back to the Verizon shop. After they almost laughed me out of the store after asking about it, i pulled out my trusty motorola razor (temp phone), posted up by the Storm 2 / Tour stand, and had an unusually loud conversation with a friend about how BlackBerry killed my phone, then tried to charge me $50 to talk to a technician, verizon told me it wasnt their fault therfore problem, and verizon told me to shoo. After all the verizon customers moved toward the door, i finally got to talk to a manager. Needless to say verizon is sending me a new 8830 today in the mail.

fyi, next time u call - just say your phone froze completely and won't do anything any longer. That way they can't say its not their fault - it would be automatically covered under manu warranty. Give CS a call - don't bother with stores. Because if a tech can't fix the issue, they'll just send another phone out. (coming form a vzw rep)

Re: 8830 Killed By RIM

Hi,

Have a look at this:

Right click My Computer, select Properties.

Select Hardware, Device manager.

Expand USb controllers.

Right click USB ROOT HUB and click  properties.

Click Power mamagement.

See how the Power Saving is ENABLED?

This means when devices talk over USB and one stops responding (i.e. the BB Software is resetting the device to get ready to reinstall the OS) then Windows will Automatically disable the USB port.

Thus the DTM cant talk to the PC to get the OS loaded.

Because the OS cant be loaded, then the devcie is dead.

So RIM/Blackberry didnt klill your device - Microsoft did.

Or, if you ask them then they will tell you that you should know about the abilities of the program and your mobile and its your fault....

Take whatever answer you want but the result is still the same.. the phone is dead and cant be restored for love nor money....
