8830 - micro SDHC

was looking to buy a 8 GB microSDHC!

...are they compatible with the 8830? [running OS 4.2.2.123]

...or do i need to stick with the ordinary 2 GB microSD?

Re: 8830 - micro SDHC

Careful, while the support page does say that it supports 4gb SD, I could not find anywhere, and I mean nowhere, that give the 8830 SD slot specifications, i.e., SD only or SD and SDHC.  There is a difference.

The manual that comes with the 8830 (just got mine today) is really poor.  No specification section at all.  The online support, as you discovered, did not cover SDHC at all.

Couldn't find a support e-mail address either, in which to ask this simple technical question. So I came here, hoping to get an answer.

I've downloaded the 4.3 software, which is said to support 8GB SD, but again SD only, or SD and SDHC?

I don't think there are any microSD cards that go up to 8GB; they seem to top out at 4GB. The 6GB cards and higher seem to be all microSDHC.

Re: 8830 - micro SDHC

How does one do a reply with quote on this board?

In any event, while 8GB microSD cards aren't here yet, the problem is not with the amount of space that is on a card, but the card type.  Does the 8830 support microSDHC cards, or does it only support microSD?

Re: 8830 - micro SDHC

thx a lot

...yes SDHC are NOT supported by the current 8830 handset!

even if the the OS was updated to function with SDHC, the handset would not work 'well' becoz apparently SDHC is a different type of Memory Card & NOT a newer type of SD card itself!

i guess the name of the card is misleading...

MicroSDHC -> not the improved version of MicroSD...BUT in fact a DIFFERENT type of Memory Card!

thx again to all to took the time to reply to my post!

Quote: 8830 supports microSDs only.

There appears to be a conflict of info.  To wit: http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-MicroSD-Transflash-Memory-Flash/dp/B000VB7VRS/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1208112907&sr=8-13

Also: http://www.amazon.com/Speed-Kingston-microSD-Memory-Adapter/dp/B0016LC366/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1208113566&sr=8-23

That is specifically saying that SDHC is supported by the 8830.  It would make sense, since the 8830 came out after the SDHC spec and to be able to support 8GB pretty much means that it has to be SDHC, as I've never seen 8GB in SD.

Re: 8830 - micro SDHC

The microSDHC cards do indeed  work in the 8830.  Over on another forum, users there have them in their BBs.  Be sure and reformat in the BB, using the BB.  It seems that the BB is using FAT16, instead of FAT32 (how dumb in this day and age).

The 8GB SDHC might not work, depending on the OS level in your phone.
