Um... Ok, I washed my Razor. It was the dryer that did it in though, it tumbled it to pieces. Money is extremely tight right now so I went on craigslist and found a BlackBerry for $100. It's the 8703e. Everything on it works well and I was surprised by how good of shape it is in. Anyways, to my point, when I go to 'email settings' and try to 'Create New Account' I keep getting the "An Account Already Exists For This PIN Number".
I've looked through the FAQ's on this website and I've looked through the manual and troubleshooting guide but cannot resolve this. The closest thing I've come up with was a posting by BlackBerry stating that if a duplicate PIN is encountered that the situation would be resolved by automatically deleting the old PIN account and replacing it with a new account. I assure you, this is not the case... in my case.
Can anyone help me?
Thank You,
Clay

Theres a high chance it was set up with the original carrier that is was sold with.
To find this out you need to get the vendor id of the device.
Do this by holding down (all at the same time ) the ALT+CAP+H button..
Or
Whilst pressing down ALT, select E Then S then C then R
You should see a little page pop up with random info.
What you are looking for is the vendor ID. a three digit number.
Then I will post a list of all the vendors IDS at the end of this message as i can't remember the link..
Anyhow, find the carrier from the list and call them asking them to release the PIN..
IF... the prev user didn't register it with that carrier (which would mean you phone has possibly been used twice before) then you can call your current Carrier and ask them to escalate the call to RIM who will be able to tell...
Hope this helps..

Is it New or used phone? For a new phone this should not happen. If its a used phone then you can either get the password and user name from the previous owner of the device to access BlackBerry email settings. If that's not possible then contcat your carrier and explain the senario and they'll be able to make the device free from BIS Admin Site.
The carrier can only release it from the BIS admin site if it was set up with that carrier from the previous user.
Say someone sets it up with carrier 1, sells the phone and someone wants to set up with carrier 2. User 2 will need to call her Carrier 2 and they can call RIM and get it released.
Or User two can call carrier 1 to have it released..
Or user two can call carrier two and get it released simply if it was set up on their BIS site first.

I just went through this with AT&T after using this forum. They had to transfer me from customer support to technical support and then to Blackberry support in order to release the PIN. If you have this problem, keep saying you need the carrier to release the PIN. Don't let them deter you, the original customer support person will probably have no idea what you're talking about, so have them transfer you to tech support. You'll probably have better luck with that. There's no way the original person you talk to will be able to do it.
Hope that helps!

So I'm getting the message that an account already exists for my PIN as well..
Thing is, I bought my phone new from Verizon. Is it likely that they sold me a second-hand phone?

Using your method above it's confirmed 102, the one I just told the forum saying only BB RIM can release the PIN. Is it so?
03-09-2009 12:27 AM
I called them again and she told me again that the only possible ay to reset the PIN is by calling RIM. But the good thing is that she offered me to talk to the tecnical support guy. Knowing what he should do he just asked me the PIN # afterwhich he simply told me "done". Being surprised for not expecting it was done that fast I asked him for reconfirmation. He said, "yes, it's done. Now you can use it with the new provider." He even mentioned my new username.
Bottom line: Talk to the right person only. You'll get what you look for.
I hope this really helps all those who look for solution of this issue. Good luck.
