BLACKBERRY 8700C

I NEED TO KNOW IF MY 8700C, WHICH I PURCHASED USED FROM A FRIEND, CAN BE SETUP FOR MY CARRIER, CENTENNIAL WIRELESS? IT IS UNLOCKED AS A GSM PHONE, BUT APPARENTLY WAS USED ON CINGULAR/ATT FOR PREVIOUS BLACKBERRY SERVICE. I WANT TO FULL FUNCTION OF THIS PHONE AND ITS SERVICES.

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

Please, turn off your ALL CAPS key. It's rude and hard to read all caps.

You need to determine if your ATT device is unlocked already, read this and compare with your device:

http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_determine_if_my_BlackBerry_is_%22unlocked%22%3F

Then, if not unlocked, you will need an unlock code. I recommend Horizon Wireless, see the link just below in my signature, they are reputable and honest and fairly priced.

Details to unlock:

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

If Centennial Wireless is a GSM based carrier, then an unlocked device will work on their network.

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

Centennial is GSM in the US, and CDMA in the Carribean islands... so, the user will have to figure out where he is.

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

sorry for the all caps.

i am in the states, and my carrier says that blackberry's are locked to the origian carrier?

so even though my phone works, they say to get full BB function, RIM has to "unlock" it or associate the IMEI to Centennial Wireless, instead of Cingular/ATT

Sorry, I don't know who "they" is, but "they" is wrong. RIM does not unlock devices. Carriers which sold the device will often provide a "free" unlock code, but your devcie is branded to ATT and ATT requires you to be a customer in good standing to get that. And you are not an ATT customer, right?

I gave you complete instructions above of what to do. Call Horizon Wireless. You can't do better.

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

i follwed the directions you posted.

my phone shows it is unlocked.

in the network part it says "disabled".

so should my carrier here in the states be able to get me working?

the looked up my IMEI and PIN and have no record.

they said that since those numbers were not in their database, they would not be able to get it to work. is that true?

Re: BLACKBERRY 8700C

1. Put your ATT SIM card in to the device.

2. Make sure you have THE BlackBerry Data Plan on you Centennial mobile account. Call Centennial to have that added.

3. Register your device PIN and IMEI with Centennial at the BIS login site:

http://www.centennial.blackberry.com/

JSanders, thanks for the clear instructions!  I called ATT and gave them my IMEI# and they gave me an unlock code for free.  Once you get the unlock code, turn off the radio on your device.  Then you go to Options/Sim Card and type MEPD, then type MEP2.  In the menu that appears, you type the unlock code that ATT gave you and hit enter and you're done.
