Blackberry Smart Card Reader 2

Hi All,

This one's a doozy.

I've got a 2nd generation BB Smartcard Reader. I updated the software and had it paired with a Bold 9700. When I went to retrieve the certificates off the smartcard, it shut down and now all I get is a blinking red light.

Tried to reinstall software and hard boot the reader, nothing. Just blinking red light.

Buttons do nothing, hooking up to computer does nothing.

Anyone have any ideas? I feel like I may have just bricked a not-so-cheap piece of equipment.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Blackberry Smart Card Reader 2

Bump - I am having the same problem. Found this thread through Google. The real thing that upsets me about RIM support is that there is no way to contact a help desk or ask for an RMA for this particular accessory.

I thought maybe there was a power spike while it was plugged in, and something is "fried" in the device, but I am not so sure that is the case.

ANy answers out there? Any smart people FROM RIM?

Re: Blackberry Smart Card Reader 2

Try using the app loader from /Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/apploader/loader.exe

This usually means that there is no software at all on the device. Using this rudimentary loader.exe will put the os back on the reader and allow the device to be resurrected. I did this and I was able to pair up with the BB just fine.
