Hello Everyone,
I need help in viewing large videos on my BB 8800. I know only Videos - Up to 320 x 240, up to 800 kbps, up to 30 frames per second are compatible, but all large videos have a higher resolution. It shoots an error when tried playing.
I want to view files with ext .avi, .wmv and .mpg files with higher dimensions. somewhat like this :
Media type: .avi
Video size: 480x360
Audio: 32000hz, 16bps, 2ch
Length: 0:15:23
Bitrate: 495kbps
Please help.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sorry, but what you are directly asking isn't possible -- you are asking to play back an unsupported format...the format exceeds the capabilities of the device, so there's no way to overcome that limitation. What you can to is transcode the files into supported formats so that they will play back on the device. Media Manager can be used to perform the transcoding if it is used to load the media files onto the BB. But playing them in the native format that you are asking for simply isn't possible...you must live within the limitations of the device.
Good luck and let us know!

Hi, Thanks for your reply, but this really doesnt help me.
If you can assist me in what I can view at a maximum range and what formats are viewable?
Let me know if there is a possibility of conversion?
Could you please help me on how to use Media Manager to convert?

The KB that documents the supported formats is here:
And here is a KB that discusses how to install Media Manager:
And all of the downloads are available here:
And here is the KB for how to transfer files using MM:
Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for this. Can you tell me how to transcode the file which is not of the supported format?
Ideally I am looking for a solution to convert my larger files to BB supported files.

If you use Media Manager to copy the file to your BB, it will perform the transcoding for you as it does the copy. It will sense the optimal file format and settings for your BB and (assuming you've said "yes" when it asked) transcode the file as it copies it to your BB. On mine, it takes my originals (typically avi's) and turns them into MP4's on my BB. It is very processor intensive...so don't plan on using that PC much while you've got MM doing that process. When I do them, I usually set it up to run overnight while I sleep.
If you want to use other tools to manually do the transcoding, I've got nothing for you there...I only have used MM to do the transcoding.

I generally by-pass all the conversion issues by using ORB. I have my movies on my PC (along with my music files) and stream them to my BB.
I am watching a movie as I type on the Storm which is resident on my PC as an .avi file. With my audio files I have a number that are .flac and they can be streamed to the Storm also without issue.
I don't worry about file formats with the stream. I recognize this can be an issue with some users but as I am in a very good coverage area the stream is not an issue.
