Hi everybody!
Any idea is appreciated! After upgrading the device software to version 4.5 earlier this week (BlackBerry 8800 with v4.5.0.69 (platform 2.7.0.72)) as proposed by T-Mobile and RIM Germany something has changed with the behaviour when connecting via USB as a mass storage device:
Using a micro-SD card with 2 GB for some months now as a storage for MP3-Files which can be played with my Blue&Me system in my car. This is some kind of Microsoft Windows mobile platform (Automotive) providing playback of MP3-files etc connected via USB. This was never a problem with the previous software. It behaved as it should. Here is an example of what it previously did (taken from http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/mess
The message about insufficient current is important here because the Blue&Me system does not provide the current as proposed by USB-standards. Anyway after clicking this message/warning away the Blue&Me would recognize the mass storage and start playback.
After upgrading to v4.5 there is no warning about current any more and the mass storage can't be recognized. I've checked both components: The B&M works fine with any other USB-devices connected, and the BB works fine with Windows after connecting via USB (presumably because there is enough current!). All standard settings in Options/Media card for enabling mass storage have been tested but without success.
Has anyone encountered a similar behaviour with his (or her) BB and a low current USB-connection? Dows anyone know a workaround?
Thanks in advance!

It is a pity that obviously nobody else got problems like me! Or maybe this problem is such a specialised technical issue that hardly anybody knows... ;-)
So I will add some more questions, maybe someone knows this:
-Were there changes on the USB-mass storage drivers OR which part of the OS4.5 applications or modules or whatever part of software handles USB-connections?
Thanks for ANY idea!

Question: What version of the desktop manager are you using? The 8800 series and higher do not charge with the computer unless you have desktop manager 4.2 and above installed on your computer.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
For your reference an excellent USB post by XANDREX;

Thanks,
Please remember to resolve your thread. Put the check mark in the green box that contained your answer! Thanks

@ tamrock777: Thank you for your answer!
As it seems on my new computer I have not installed the desktop manager software so far! But it did charge my BB8800 yesterday! Sounds strange but it is true...
Anyway this would not explain the problems encountered with my Blue&Me USB HUB. The main problem is not the charging itself but the acitvation of the mass storage

@Bifocals: Thank you very much!
Having read your second proposal I doubt that this would help as the problems are different.
But I will try the solution proposed in your first link with degrading to 4.2.2 USB drivers.
Will report if it helps!
Have a nice weekend everybody!

Back again with situation unchanged... :-(
The idea with downgrading USB-drivers did not work out because this is only for Windows or DM drivers not for the handheld drivers...
Some guys who know the Blue&Me thing told me that they are sure that B&M behaves as an ordinary USB hub with typical current etc. When plugging the handheld device to the mini-USB connector cable it does recognize that it has been connected --> screen is lit when in "stand by" dark mode before. When enabling mass storage mode in options there is no longer the information about total size and available size.
Does anybody know other circumstances why this USB connection could not work out??? After all the thing I changed was the OS on my BB not the car, so the reason must be found in driver changes or something similar!

I am having essentially the same issues only my carrier is Sprint and I have an 8130. Everything worked and now can not use the phone to play music in my car or anywhere else at the moment. Computer reads it fine. Definitely not my media card either.

Hi B8800-MJ,
Man this is from November, you could save enough for a Real PC ? ![]()
Good to hear from you! I'm going to see if I can find some info on the
Blue&Me. Is this a production PC or is this a build up?
I'll be back in a bit, hopefully one of the real smart users will get you fixed!
Thanks,

Okay, that was a learning experience.
What are you running, Window's mobile?
I couldn't find any specs on USB, but they
are all using "powered" USB cables.
It sounds like a power issue with USB, maybe the latest drivers
and software would help?
