Just a few days ago I was prompted by the Desktop Manager to install the latest software updates for my Blackberry 8830 and Desktop Manager. I did the update and install.
After the install, Media Manager quit working. When I click on "Launch" under Media Manager, I get a message that says: "Invalid Installation. Please Install Again" I've been trying to find a way to reinstall Media Manager without having to reinstall the whole desktop software. Why you ask. Well, the whole package to download and install is over 225MB. For me that is a HUGE issue. The only internet service I have in my area other than dial up is Hughes.net satelite internet and they limit me to only 200MB download each day. If I go over 200MB, I get shut down for 24 hours. I know, it sucks but it's my only choice. I can assure you that as soon as DSL gets here, Hughes will get dropped. So, seeing that I can't just download and install again without a HUGE hassle, is there a work around or stand alone media manager that I can download and install? Any other fix that you can think of?
The last time I did a software upgrade, my phone quite syncing with Outlook. So, each time I've done an upgrade, stuff quit working. Guess I've learned my lesson on that...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. No more upgrades after this.

Hi there!
Sorry, but I don't think so. The RIM software is packaged with and without Media Manager...there is no stand alone MM component that I am aware of. Indeed, in "Add/Remove Programs", all you will see is the RIM DTM software -- you won't see any entries for MM as a stand alone app. Hence, the need to download the appropriate package and install it. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but that's what I understand.
Here's a process to use if you want to do the clean uninstall (which I recommend) and reinstall from scratch:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
5) Install DTM to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!
