New User to 8700c

What are the advantages to adding a microsd card and are there limits to the size of the card (2gb, 4gb)?

Re: New User to 8700c

First, please understand the 8700 does not have the ability for a Media Card.

But to answer your question, the size of the Media Card is controlled by the OS on the BlackBerry. Right now, RIM supports up to 16 GB size cards (and they are beginnig to become available for shipping). Otherwise, currently 4 and 8 GB are quite common.

Re: New User to 8700c

To make sure I'm understanding the first part of your answer, you're saying it will be of no benefit to have the microsd card in the 8700c?  I was hoping I would be able to transfer some ringtones over after adding it.  I have not been able to transfer them via bluetooth.  I can connect, but the file stops with a message that my phone does not have the necessary devices.  I was guessing that the device it was needing was the microsd card.

Not just "no benefit", there is NO slot for a MicroSD card card on the 8700. So it is impossible.

Re: New User to 8700c

Hi

If you upgrade to the latest O/S 4.5 you will be able to use your bluetooth to sent/receive pictures, ringtones etc. The original software in the 8700 only allowed the bluetooth to be used to link a handsfree kit.

I upgraded my 8700 two days ago and it now has complete bluetooth compatibility

Hi

I am in the UK  and this the direct link which I downloaded the 8700 upgrade from

http://updateservice.t-mobile.net/blackberry/download/folder.do?ref=%2Fservices%2Fftp%2Fproftp%2Fser...

This is is the RIM BB list of all the software updates etc for the different networks and other countries

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp

These are the instructions I followed

OS Installation Instructions:

To install an OS update to the BB:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload the OS package and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)..(I didn't need to do this bit as my carrier is T-mobile anyway)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade

Hope this helps, I used my PC to upgrade, I didn't try it on my Mac though.
