I'm taking my Blackberry 8830 World Edition to Europe and Im going to use a sim car purchased there ... does that mean I can only use the phone ... or can I also emal and browse?

You'll only be able to the phone, no data, unless you subscribe a BlackBerry Data Plan on the carrier of the SIM you purchase.
