my desktop software is 7.0 and my blackberry's version is te same as well, but still cant sync my contact. Can u help? Thanks!

You cannot because there seems to be a problem with the BBDS7, try uninstalling and install the 6 version.

Fresh BB Torch 9860, OS 7.1 bundle 1149

Windows 7 Pro, BBDS 7.1.0.32

- the same 5211 error

followed instructions: Uninstalled BBDS. done.

installed BBDS 6.1.0.38. worked fine.

Awaiting for fixed BBDS 7

I have have no access to the 7th release in France. The latest release here is 6.00 pack 2949.

I have tried to upload prior versions (for ex. 6.00 pack 2554) several times, it doesn't help...

 

Any idea to solve this issue?

Found a way around it......

 

I was downloading my contacts from my Google account into CSV format.

 

Then importing this file to my contacts folder in Windows 7.

 

Using Blackberry Desktop Software 7.0, trying to sync my windows contacts with my BB I got this "CRADSDatabase ERROR (5211): There is an error converting Unicode string to or from code page ..."

 


I thought maybe it was the format of the contacts that was the problem so I tried reading through the release notes of 7.0 and the User Guide but I couldn't find any thing on the subject.....

 

I tried one last thing...

 

From my Google account I exported my contacts to o vCard format (apply address book). Just my phone contacts, not saved contacts from people's emails.

 

Then imported them to my contacts folder.

 

Then it was able to sync with my BB.

 

RIM should have tested for this, did they get lazy? Why isn't there an option to import CSV directly into the manager?

I have found a solution!!

 

The error message means there is a string of characters the phone does not like. And I found it amoung my contacts! I had a contact from Poland with specific polish characters. I erased the letter which does not belong to our occidental letters and it synchronization works again!

Personally I cannot search for peculiar characters at my 2000 contacts (which include lots of lines in Notes field), calendar etc

Filters or boundaries that exist in BBDS 7 do not exist in 6 and this has to be changed in 7

These are data phones, that someone should be able to write lots of things and not just 123 or abc.

I hope RIM gives us the exact characters that we are allowed to enter!!!
