Hey pyschopunk,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Thanks for the question.
The only way to reset the password to unlock the BlackBerry® is to place it incorrectly 10 times and then it will erase all data and you can create a new password.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

What do you mean "erase data"? Does that mean you loose all your phone numbers, etc if you sign in 10 times to get a new password and unlock the phone?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
That is exactly what it means. BBs are highly secure, and the most important part for security is over the data that they contain...the device itself is secondary in this regard. Hence, if the password is entered wrongly 10 times, all user data is wiped clean, so as to protect that data from prying eyes (loss, theft, etc.).
That is simply one of the best security features that the BB can have. Reading this forum, you will find tons of posts where folks lost or had their BB stolen, but had no security features enabled...pity the poor folks who they had as contacts in their address book. Only that password, created by the end user, can be used to unlock the BB...there is no "backdoor" or "master" password to override this security setting.
The specific situation discussed in this thread is indeed an unfortunate side effect of the high security that BBs have...but to do less would be to lessen the level of security, which is not (so far) something RIM wishes to do (rightly, in my mind).
Good luck!
