No, that's not what I'm saying.
FLAC is the better file format compared to WAV because they are both lossless and it is SMALLER than WAV.
Smaller file size with NO loss in quality.

I read up on FLAC and OGG. FLAC and OGG are both open source free file formats. Probably why BB does not support either one. WAV and MP3 are not open source and not free and BB supports both. That is so typical of proprietary software and hardware developers.
I challenge BB aka Research In Motion Limited to prove me wrong by supportting open source free file formats.
I pulled FLAC and OGG files from the same CD of the same song and played them both on my Linux PC and could not tell any difference in sound quality. FLAC is technically a better file format but for personal listening pleasure, OGG is totally acceptable and it is way smaller for more storage capacity. It would make more sense for BB to support the ogg format.

Well BB! Can you say Android? Linux OS open source software developed by Google and Open Handset Alliance coming out in less than a week. Nov 2009.
GOOD BYE BB HELLO ANDROID!

I too would love to see .ogg support on the BB. However, I think some of you may be misinformed. Ogg files are NOT on factory created CDs. If you are using KDE, KDE shows you various file formats for ripping. They do not actually exist on the CD. Generally speaking, the only files on the CD are CDDA audio files. Period.
Do RIM developers even read these forums?

Please provide documentation to prove what you are saying.

You might be technically right, but what does it matter because the data on the CD is written to make certain file formats automatically available. Every CD I have shows CDDA, FLAC, WAV and OGG and some newer ones even show MP3.
The formats are coded into the data. You can't rip MP3 from a CD that does not have that format coded in. You would have to rip one of the formats available and then convert it after ripping.
So for practical purpose the OGG format is on the CD. So get out of here with your techincal garbage that CDDA is the only format on a CD.

IIRC, a CD is written using universal disk format as a filesystem and CDA (compac disc audo) as individual files. These are roughly equivelant to .wav files and are 44,000 khz samples of audio. (Keep in mind the very top and bottom of the ranges are automatcially cutoff when transferring from analog.)
As it is, I see more people moving from blackberry and the closed formats to open format devices such as the Droid ones.

Exactly! I switched from BB to Droid the day after Droid was out. It was a smart move. BB Storm doesn't even compare to Droid. Droid is way better.

I would also like to suggest support for ogg-vorbis files. I have all my music in ogg-format and I know many other people have too, since it is the only very good open source format for music.
I would also like to see BB support other open source music and video formats.
As development continues and functions merge, it is a killer not to be able to play your music on your smartphone. Next one will not be a BB for me if open source is not coming up.
Thank you and greetings,
Thomas
